Cape Fear Healthy Carolinians has functioned as a collaborative, community-based network dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents of the Cape Fear Region. Three health priorities were identified and committees were created. From these initiatives, operating entities have evolved:
ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE SERVICES--now provided by Cape Fear HealthNet, a grant-funded initiative to improve health care access for the medically uninsured. For information, capefearhealthnet.org.
VIOLENCE PREVENTION—a Blue Ribbon Commission has been created to lead the community-wide effort in violence prevention. The Violence Prevention Committee has been reconstituted as the Technical Advisory Committee. For information, tufanna.thomas@cfauw.org.
OBESITY PREVENTION—the Obesity Prevention Committee obtained a series of foundation grants to create the Obesity Prevention Initiative, now based at UNCW. For information, Shieldsa@uncw.edu.
